Electronic Solo

Program Note

Berg Variations (2021), for solo Disklavier, takes inspiration from the player piano works of Conlon Nancarrow and seeks to explore the unique compositional opportunities that are only available through such mechanical instruments. The piece makes use of Alban Berg’s Piano Sonata op. 1 tone row in its initial presentation for the theme of the work and relies primarily on poly tempo, fragmentation, and canonic processes to generate the materials of the work.
